Selling Your Company & Wayne Gretzky
JANUARY 2021 | SCOTT HARDMAN, MANAGING DIRECTOR
2021 is setting up as potentially a really great year to sell all or part of your private company.
2021 will also be the first year for The Kraken, Seattle’s new NHL team.
These two facts have me thinking about business owners and hockey great Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky, the NHL’s all-time scoring leader who is nicknamed “The Great One” famously said,
“A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.”
This famous quote highlights the critical importance of not being so caught up in the moment that we fail to consider alternatives and options. In a fast moving sport like hockey such consideration is always difficult. This is also true for us in business.
For business owners, it is difficult to take time to think about where the puck is going to be due to all the moment-to-moment and day-to-day demands. While focusing on the present is important, to exclusively focus on the present (where the puck is) means not thinking about the future (where the puck is going to be).
As former CEOs, CFOs and current Board members, we understand the need to think strategically while acting tactically. Therefore, we provide resources for business owners to help them efficiently think through their strategic options. These include:
Cost free and confidential consultations.
Our Transaction Guide, “Selling Your Business” which outlines in a series of chapters the steps for planning and executing a successful business transition.
Our quarterly briefing “Pacific Northwest Market Update” which tracks insightful metrics and analyzes deals in our region by Value, State, Industry and Sector.
We look forward to being helpful to you. Please be in touch with us.
